Protection class IP66 refers to a protection rating based on the “IEC 60529” standard established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), indicating dust and water resistance.
Meaning of IP66
● IP (Ingress Protection): A standard that indicates the degree of protection against external solids and liquids.
● The first 6 = Dust-tight: This means complete dust protection. The device is fully protected from dust particles, including fine sand or dust, ensuring that no particles can enter the interior. This is the highest level of dust protection in the IP standard.
● The second 6 = Protection against powerful water jets: This means the device is resistant to strong water jets from any direction, preventing water ingress into the internal components. This level of protection allows the device to withstand powerful water streams (e.g., from high-pressure washers), making it suitable for outdoor or harsh environments.
Summary
● Complete dust protection: Fully protects internal components from fine solids like dust and sand.
● Resistance to powerful water jets: Prevents water from entering the interior, even when exposed to strong water streams.
