When focusing at infinity, inserting an optical system with angles in between doesn’t alter the magnification rate and doesn’t degrade imaging performance. It’s also resistant to ghosts caused by internal reflections such as mirrors or filters, providing high imaging performance.
Of course, this applies to optical systems with angles like dichroic mirrors, and in cases like phase contrast and brightfield microscopy where such optical systems are not required, the quality remains unchanged even at infinity focus
